Limerick City and County Council is working in partnership with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and the Department of Transport to develop a scheme to relieve congestion on the N21 Limerick to Tralee Road through Newcastle West. This project is called the N21 Newcastle West Road Scheme. This is an important project to enhance regional connectivity and to improve road safety.
Limerick City and County Council has appointed Jacobs Consulting Engineers to advance the project through the planning and design process. Subject to funding, the design process will be developed in stages, with opportunities for the public to participate in the decision-making at key stages.
The project is currently at the Option Selection stage. The Option Selection process has considered and assessed a range of feasible options within the study area under the three headings - engineering, environment and economy. A number of Route Corridor Options have now been shortlisted to take forward for further development.
As part of this process, Limerick City and County Council is seeking feedback from the public on the shortlisted options developed for the project. Due to COVID-19, Limerick City and County Council is unable to hold a public consultation event in-person within the study area. Instead, an online public consultation platform has been developed and will be launched on this website from 12 noon on Monday 1st February 2021. This online public consultation experience will provide a virtual consultation room that will allow you to view and interact with the consultation information and maps and to provide feedback on the options using an online feedback form. The online consultation room will include a booking facility where you can schedule an online or telephone meeting with a member of the project team during the consultation period.
